Pinkfoot Gallery at Cley-next-the-Sea
Excellent North Norfolk Art Gallery
The Pinkfoot Gallery is located in the main street of Cley-next-the-Sea. It is owned and run by Sarah Whittley and Rachel Lockwood.
Sarah’s background is in art and publishing and she has for many years worked with artists that produce pieces in most mediums. In 1992 she established a company called the Wildlife Art Agency that specializes in book packaging and wildlife illustration. She is kept very busy running the gallery business but has managed to continue with her natural history writing career on a freelance basis. Sarah has recently embarked upon a new business venture with the creation of Red Hare Publishing, a vehicle for producing and publishing books about Norfolk. Also produced will be a range of greetings cards designed for art collectors and the hardback British Nature range of blank scribbler books.
Rachel is a professional artist with a studio in Cley. She leaves the day-to-day running of the gallery to Sarah so that she can fully concentrate on her painting. Her contemporary works reflect the environment and the nature that surrounds her home. Rachel recently completed her first book, North Norfolk – A Painted Landscape; it is written in the form of a diary and is illustrated with her pictures. The work relates her daily life as a North Norfolk based artist. It is published by Red Hare Publishing and details are available on the website.
The gallery is situated in what was originally a shop so it benefits from natural light through the large windows. The stock consists of impressive artworks all of which are inspired by nature subjects. The artists that regularly exhibit are collectively known as the ‘Pinkfoot Artists’. Sculpture is a speciality with some excellent bronzes of animals and birds being available. Impressive woodcarvings are also featured and the paintings exhibited range in style from realistic to abstract. There are a variety of mediums in evidence – from oils through to works produced using encaustic techniques.
The Pinkfoot has been known to migrate on occasions to hold exhibitions in other parts of the country.
