Eric’s Fish & Chips at Thornham
The taste for “designer” fish and chips seems to be increasing in North Norfolk as hot on the heels of Galton Blakiston’s No 1 at Cromer comes Eric’s at Thornham. This new venture is the work of the Chef/Patron at Titchwell Manor, Mr Eric Snaith. Perhaps he was encouraged by the success of No 1?
The choice is varied with several different fish on offer and by cooking in beef dripping rather than oil the delicious taste of traditional fish and chips is recreated. All produce is locally sourced, as Eric’s “champions artisan producers, British farmers and sustainably caught fish.” For those in the party that don’t eat fish and chips there are other options from a menu that is styled on contemporary European cuisine.
The design of the restaurant is described as industrial-meets-maritime. The colour scheme is of sea greens, deep navy and white with accents of sunshine yellow. Bright yellow tables, metal stools and the feature wall of tiles reflecting the colour scheme complete the overall look.

The restaurant is open from noon to 9pm daily and there is the option to eat in the very pleasant surroundings or to order takeaway.
Eric’s Fish & Chips is to be found beside the coast road just outside the village at Drove Orchard. It is well-signed, so if driving on the coast road you can’t really miss it.
I haven’t visited yet but I certainly intend to so so in the near future.
