The sea areas of Dudgeon and Race Bank off the Norfolk coast are to be the site of two more wind farms after approval was received from the government.

The cost will be in the region of £3bn pounds and the energy produced will be sufficient to power some three quarters of a million homes.  The two sites, when fully operational, will generate more than 1GW of electricity.

Dudgeon will be built by Warwick Energy and the Race Bank installation will be completed by Centrica.

These developments will create some jobs and bring new investment into Norfolk.

A third development at Docking Shoal will not go ahead because of concerns over the effect it might have had on the sandwich terns in The Wash.  These birds are afforded protection by legislation so it was decided not to proceed.
