‘The Cricketers On The Green’ at Aldborough North Norfolk

I have known this public house in the village of Aldborough in North Norfolk since I was a teenager. Previously called The Black Boys, a name change has been made to The Cricketers On The Green. That is not the only change, as the pub has recently been transformed into an attractive venue that serves high-quality meals. The welcome is warm, and a wide choice of beers and wines is available.

The head chef, Jake Wragg, certainly knows his craft, and the sea bass I was served was cooked to perfection.

From the website: “Chef Jake and his team delight diners from near and far with an array of freshly prepared, innovative dishes. Embracing the changing seasons, our menu evolves monthly, ensuring that we offer the finest flavours and ingredients Norfolk has to offer.”

Aldborough North Norfolk Village SignThe ancient building is located on the edge of the expansive village green where an annual fair has been held for as long as anyone can remember: in 2024, it will be on the 23rd of June.

The Aldborough Cricket Club makes full use of the expansive village green.

Location: The Green Aldborough, North Norfolk. Sat Nav: NR11 7AA

  1. Hi David, Kent from The Cricketers here. Thank you so much for this fabulous review so pleased you enjoyed. I just wanted to clear one thing up regarding the change of name. Nothing at all to do with political correctness. When we took over and our social media started to kick in people were booking here but going to the Black Boys in Aylsham, where they would be seated, not told they were in the wrong place. In part the mix up by the guest is understandable given The Black Boys in Aylsham has much greater visibility, as it’s located in the middle of town. It wasn’t a one off incident either, it was every single day. Pretty clear that our pub would not be viable if this continued, so with a heavy heart we changed the name of our pub to The Cricketers. I know some people have raised the political correctness thing, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Like I said just wanted to clear this up. Look forward to seeing you again, best regards, Kent.
